A Small Roll of History

In an age where vintage is the epitome of cool, its a wonder that microfilm machines aren't the newest fad. I personally had never used or even taken the time to educate myself about one until recently. I knew what they were and basically what they did, but I had no idea how fun and interesting a tool they could be. My LIS 201 class changed that a couple of weeks ago.

Our class took a "field trip', if you will, down the hall on the second story of the library. We were shown around the archival room by a very nice librarian, well versed in her knowledge of her atmosphere. She showed us how to operate the microfilm machines and look at old newspapers, bank statements, and other old documents. I was able to find my birth announcement from 22 years ago! Overall, I found microfilm and microfilm machines to be a very useful and interesting way to see, study, learn, or research the past. They really are pretty fun machines.
